Surveyors want construction chief appointed
The Society of Chartered Surveyors (SCS) wants the Government to appoint a chief adviser to head a new Construction Industry Consultative Council, which would be aimed at promoting a 'sustainable' construction industry.
SCS president Ken Cribbin has predicted that 40,000 more jobs will be lost in the property and construction sector throughout 2010. This follows on substantial loses in 2009.
He told the SCS's annual dinner that while the Government had taken action to tackle the banking crisis and stabilise the public finances. it had ignored the construction industry.
A new construction chief advisor would oversee the whole capital spending programme and give the industry a much needed voice in Government.
