Top praise for Chester building restoration firm

A Chester bases company has been praised for its work in restoring a landmark city building.

Hodkinson Mallinson Ltd, chartered building surveyors of Hoole, have just had a restoration project commended in the Royal Institution of Chartered Surveyors (RICS) Awards 2008 Building Conservation category, recognising outstanding work in conserving a building.

The honour acknowledges the firm's involvement with the restoration of the grade 2* listed facade of 39-41 Bridge St Chester, a famous black and white building at the entrance to the Mall Shopping Centre and often described as "the most photographed building in Chester".

The work involved restoring the whole of the building's facade.

The downstairs section is occupied by shops and the upper levels are empty.

Tim Mallinson, director of Hodkinson Mallinson Ltd, said: "We are delighted the firm has achieved recognition, particularly as both the standard and volume of entrants was extremely high this year."
